All About The Wool
Wool Type +
Benefits of Wool
Wool garments offer substantially more protection from UV exposure than traditional summer fabrics, like cotton.
Wool draws moisture away from the skin and evaporates moisture, regulating body temperature in all conditions.
Ibex wool products naturally include antimicrobial properties, keeping your garment odor-free.
Wool fights off weather and dirt and prevents stains, making Ibex easy to wash and easy to keep clean.
Because Ibex is made from very small micron diameter fibers, our garments are extremely soft and comfortable.
The craftspeople who are involved in every step of the process–from the sheep, to the spinners, to the sewers–are carefully hand-selected.
Because we use wool–a natural and renewable fiber– Ibex is good for you and good for the Earth.
Ibex wool garments resist heat. They don’t hold a flame and won’t melt like synthetic fabrics and fibers.
We recommend a general body measurement guide to determine your size in Ibex clothing. This sizing chart is not garment specific, but in fact a body measurement chart. Here are some helpful hints when measuring:
Bust/Chest: relax arms at sides, keeping the tape parallel to the floor, measure the fullest part of your bust/chest
Waist: keeping the measuring tape comfortably loose, measure around your natural waistline
Hips: standing with heels together, keep the tape straight and parallel to the floor, measure around the fullest part of hips
Sleeve Length: a 3-point measurement, standing with arms relaxed and slightly bent at sides, measure from the base of the neck to the shoulder and then from the shoulder to the wrist bone, add together measurements
Form-fit: garment designed to fit snug to the body throughout
Semi-fit: garment will be contoured to the body
Regular-fit: garment will not be slim, but also not oversized
Relaxed-fit: garment drapes loosely on body

Many years ago I purchased a shak and loved it - and then it left me for parts unknown. I bought another one, this time the full-zip, and after nordic skiing with it on last year I think it is the best all-around garment Ibex makes. The thumb-loops keep the sleeve over the back of the hand, which keeps the fingers warm. The zipper can be closed fully to keep the neck warm, and opened a bit to v
My partner said I look like a superhero when I wear my Shak hoody. I am thinking about fighting crime. With a zepher baselayer and a windproof shell, this keeps me toasty down into single digits on my bicycle commute. This is a hoody that is amazingly versatile and comfortable. I think you could wear this hoody to the cafe, the track, the library, the bar, the trail, the moon, wherever. Does it ma
I wore this garment everyday while guiding in Alaska this past season. I took advantage of the thumb holes to protect the back of my hands from the sun which led to some distress at the end of the sleeves but not nearly as much damage as you would expect from treating the sleeves like a pair of sun gloves. Furthermore, the hood is like armor protecting your neck and ears from the sun, wind, weath
The Shack Hoody is nearly the perfect piece of clothing. To start with the one minor flaw, I fall between a medium and large, so deciding to go with a slimmer fit or baggier fit was a tough decision. I decided to size down so that this piece would layer better, and made the right decision. Although perhaps a bit short in torso length and tight in the chest, this is still my go to piece now for jus
This a great layer for cool to cold weather almost year round mountain biking! With a thick soft shell for cold, with a thinner soft shell for cool and probably alone in a mild, non summer morning. The hood comes far over to cover the forehead. I wish the front came further up to cover the chin, but I got a merino wool neck gaiter to do that. Oh! the sleeves with the thumb holes are wonderful. At
Awesome fit and comfort for layering. The hood fits better and is more comfortable than any I've worn. Softness a huge plus. Most impressive is that ibex has kept price at or below other product lines while still avoiding the made in China epidemic rampant in the apparel industry.
I was supremely excited to see this was offered in XXL. Life is a series of disappointments as many promising items aren't offered in my size. This single piece has/will serve many uses for some time. Built with typical Ibex quality, it is functional and its appearance doesn't scream hiker/biker/skier. It is what I would consider medium weight material, but feels light when on. The fit is jus
Its the best hoody among all the hoodies I ever had. Aside the comfort, the zipper helps to regulate temperature. I got alot of compliments of my friends they say it looks very stylish - cool sideeffect for such a great functional achievement :) thanx ibex -and keep on "shak"ing ;)
This is the sneaky girlfriend who surprised the perfect boyfriend with a replacement for his first/favorite worn-to-shreds Ibex Shak. Slipping the newly arrived Shak on for the first time, he realized just how ragged he'd worn the old one from wearing it nonstop. He couldn't be happier and the rich green wool makes me swoon every time. Like thumbs in comfy sleeve loops: we're delighted. [and warm]
I wrote a review on my Shak FZ Hoody a little while ago. After washing it just once, I noticed a thread that had come loose was threatening to become a hole. I emailed the Returns Department Goddess to ask if an exchange would be possible and the next business day she replied that a replacement was on its way, no questions asked! Very impressive! This is a company that stands by its products a
This was a smart purchase. This zip is extremely comfortable. The close fit helps keep you warm, warmer than a regular bulky sweatshirt. The thumb holes are useful for these early spring days, but admittedly get in the way if you're just relaxing at home. I may get a thumb-hole-less shak for hanging out at home. Will probably also use this as a layer on hikes this spring too.
The long sleeve length is great. navyish is a subtle shade of blue, not bright but nevertheless a strong hue. Especially appreciate the hood design for outdoor winter activities. The raglan sleeve instead of set in sleeve allows for greater ease of movement and layering. (the snug sleeves are not as good winter layering). Plan to wear this for winter beach walks and winter gardening. Wish the
I just bought this for my husband for his birthday, and his comment was "I've wanted one of these for a long time." The color (navyish) is beautiful; low key but interesting. Very good details with a well placed pocket, thumb loops, and good fitting hood. The shak fabric was already a favorite of mine and I know it to wear very well.
My Shak Hoody has been doing full-time duty as a Nordic skiing layer here in central Ontario, Canada. On cold, calm days, it makes a fine outer layer. When it's windy, I use it under a shell. The hood is fitted, and works well over a merino cap. The neck contour is just right for wearing fully-zipped in cold conditions, but lets you vent when you warm up.
I use my Shak Hoody as a mid-layer for night snowboarding in New England. We've been out in some cold windy weather (low teens) and the Shak Hoody in combination with a wool base-layer and a shell jacket keeps me warm and dry.
Just got this piece on sale for 50% off and took it to Mt. Rainier for 2 days of ski touring. The piece performed well while skinning and snowboarding in humid 25-31F temps with no snowfall without a shell and no to light winds at 5500' to 7000'. Very breathable. Stayed comfortable except with moderate winds at 7000'. Added a shell and it was an excellent midlayer, especially with the extra covera
I'm very happy with the fit of the XL and will probably wear it all the time; being tall and lean (6'5") it's hard for me to find clothes that are long enough without being bulky around the chest and waist. Fyi, the tag says it's 100% Merino wool exclusive of trim (the chest pocket looks like it's made of something else too, but I don't know), and the flat-lock stitching only applies to the shoul
I am 5' 11" 180 lbs. Overall fit and length of body and sleeves were right on. The cuffs on the sleeves work well using the thumb holes or not. The hood fits good; I thought it would need a cord to snug the hood from looking at the picture of the Shack online, but there is just enough stretch to make it stay on. I use this mostly as a midlayer under a light jacket so it is nice to have the hood as
I bought this to replace the grubby sweatshirts I often wear around the house and town. This hoody has a much more stylish, slim fitting cut and wears great. It's super comfortable and is a great layering piece. Only down side is that it's not very warm.
I bought this as a replacement for a worn-out cotton hoody. I was a little worried about not having side pockets, and I do miss them. Otherwise, this has been a great product, though I sometimes feel as if the cheap zipper is going to break. I'm 6'5" tall, 210 lbs, lean with long arms. Ibex recommended I go with a size large based on my measurements. I bought an XL because that's the size I u
The sleeves are a tag long for me, but for my wife, they would be perfect. she can rarely find garments with long enough sleeves. Even if they're a bit long for me, it doesn't matter, they're just down on my wrists. the thumb hole is great.
