All About The Wool
Wool Type +
We start with the best New Zealand Merino wool to make a range of insulative yet breathable midlayers that outdoor enthusiasts swear by. This exclusive weave is square and dense, creating a rugged yet soft knit with inherent stretch and long-wearing durability. Our Shak fabric is best used as a midlayer but is soft enough to wear as an expedition-weight baselayer and substantial enough to be used as an outerlayer in some conditions. No matter how you wear it, the performance is unbeatable. Machine washable.
Benefits of Wool
Wool garments offer substantially more protection from UV exposure than traditional summer fabrics, like cotton.
Wool draws moisture away from the skin and evaporates moisture, regulating body temperature in all conditions.
Ibex wool products naturally include antimicrobial properties, keeping your garment odor-free.
Wool fights off weather and dirt and prevents stains, making Ibex easy to wash and easy to keep clean.
Because Ibex is made from very small micron diameter fibers, our garments are extremely soft and comfortable.
The craftspeople who are involved in every step of the process–from the sheep, to the spinners, to the sewers–are carefully hand-selected.
Because we use wool–a natural and renewable fiber– Ibex is good for you and good for the Earth.
Ibex wool garments resist heat. They don’t hold a flame and won’t melt like synthetic fabrics and fibers.
We recommend a general body measurement guide to determine your size in Ibex clothing. This sizing chart is not garment specific, but in fact a body measurement chart. Here are some helpful hints when measuring:
Bust/Chest: relax arms at sides, keeping the tape parallel to the floor, measure the fullest part of your bust/chest
Waist: keeping the measuring tape comfortably loose, measure around your natural waistline
Hips: standing with heels together, keep the tape straight and parallel to the floor, measure around the fullest part of hips
Sleeve Length: a 3-point measurement, standing with arms relaxed and slightly bent at sides, measure from the base of the neck to the shoulder and then from the shoulder to the wrist bone, add together measurements
Form-fit: garment designed to fit snug to the body throughout
Semi-fit: garment will be contoured to the body
Regular-fit: garment will not be slim, but also not oversized
Relaxed-fit: garment drapes loosely on body

I can bike to work in this shirt, throw on a nice down vest, and work all day without incident. It's also great as a cold weather nordic ski base layer. Nothing beats Ibex Merino wool. I am fortunate to own a couple of these great shirts, which is nice to rotate them when biking to work.
I LOVE the Ibex Shak...LOVE. I use them instead of polar fleece because they are beautiful and never hold smells like artificial fibers tend to. I'm on a mission to replace all polar fleece with the Shak.
Because I wear it as a sweater or second layer, I recommend sizing up if you like a roomier fit. I actually went up one size for my first 2 Shaks and those are semi-fitted as a second layer. I a
The women's Shak jersey is well-made, of excellent merino fabric. Unfortunately it is cut extremely short in the torso. For reference, I'm about 5'3" 115 lb, wide shoulders, long torso. I've tried it on in stores, several times over the last two or three years, in sizes S to L. Unfortunately, it always fits me like a 1980's style "belly shirt". Barely comes down to my waistband, and shows lot of s
