All About The Wool
Wool Type +
This fabric has been around for over five hundred years and is still made in Austria where mountain origins can be felt in the heavyweight 25 micron fiber. Cold water processed, Ibex marries Loden tradition with progressive design by cutting the old world fabric into some of our most modern pieces.
Benefits of Wool
Wool garments offer substantially more protection from UV exposure than traditional summer fabrics, like cotton.
Wool draws moisture away from the skin and evaporates moisture, regulating body temperature in all conditions.
Ibex wool products naturally include antimicrobial properties, keeping your garment odor-free.
Wool fights off weather and dirt and prevents stains, making Ibex easy to wash and easy to keep clean.
Because Ibex is made from very small micron diameter fibers, our garments are extremely soft and comfortable.
The craftspeople who are involved in every step of the process–from the sheep, to the spinners, to the sewers–are carefully hand-selected.
Because we use wool–a natural and renewable fiber– Ibex is good for you and good for the Earth.
Ibex wool garments resist heat. They don’t hold a flame and won’t melt like synthetic fabrics and fibers.
We recommend a general body measurement guide to determine your size in Ibex clothing. This sizing chart is not garment specific, but in fact a body measurement chart. Here are some helpful hints when measuring:
Bust/Chest: relax arms at sides, keeping the tape parallel to the floor, measure the fullest part of your bust/chest
Waist: keeping the measuring tape comfortably loose, measure around your natural waistline
Hips: standing with heels together, keep the tape straight and parallel to the floor, measure around the fullest part of hips
Sleeve Length: a 3-point measurement, standing with arms relaxed and slightly bent at sides, measure from the base of the neck to the shoulder and then from the shoulder to the wrist bone, add together measurements
Form-fit: garment designed to fit snug to the body throughout
Semi-fit: garment will be contoured to the body
Regular-fit: garment will not be slim, but also not oversized
Relaxed-fit: garment drapes loosely on body

This is a warm and stylish hat. I own three and wear them all regularly (around town; they're too warm (and nice) for aerobic sports for me). They seem to work equally well in both real and moderate cold. WARNING: I machine washed one of mine in cold water on gentle and it shrunk big time---don't do this. The colors on the website are true to the actual colors.
I've looked at this hat on line for a few years. I wanted a warm hat, but Loden just seemed like it would be stiff and scratchy.
I wanted a low activity level hat. Even in single digits, when I'm working hard even the Coppi can feel overly warm if the winds are calm. Strange, though, that I might easily overheat when I'm active, but it's hard to feel warm when I'm not moving or moving
I bought this hat for my husband to add to his collection. He has two others: one in black and the other one in brown, and now he owns a green one too. It fits him perfectly well, is warm (100% wool), heavy and cozy, covering the ears. He does not leave the house without the hat ever! It is a MUST have for cold climates and outdoor activities. Highly recommended and it is unisex!
I've had my Top Knot for 2 winters, and I'm extremely happy with it. It successfully replaced a worn-out stretch-gortex lined wool hat that's no longer made. I wanted a heavy wool hat that would cover my ears, and this one has been perfect. The sizing works fine for me, and there are no signs of wear.
This is the warmest hat I have ever owned. This hat is also on the large side and is the first hat that will completely cover my ears. I own quite a few wool hats and I seem to fall into the upper range of the "one size fits all" category (not that my head is freakishly large) and this hat fits. Love the fact that the material is quality along with first rate construction that you get with produ
I own this hat from a few years ago in a different color. It seemed to fit a little bigger than I liked but because of its warmth I continued to wear it daily. I recently purched another in a different color so I could wear it at work on cold days. The fit has changed and is greatly improved! I would reccomend this hat hands down!! Love it
Thick and very, very warm, the best cold weather cap I have purchased (and people seem to love the top-knot). I really like this hat and it has kept me warm more than once and I don't ever want to forget it when I am outside in the cold.
When I read that Offpiste NH said they had a big head and it acutally fits, and Digging Life from AK said they had a Pea Head and it was a bit big, I said this hat is for me. I am a woman that cannot buy hats in the womens department anywhere. I put them on and they just sit on the top of my head or if knit start to slip up my head and end up sitting up on my head. We do a lot of laughing when I
This is the best wool hat money can buy. Why this hat doesn't get more attention is a mystery. It's kept me warm from CO to CAN to a wet fall trip in to the Boundary Waters Wilderness. I own 2 of them. Thanks Ibex! Where are all the other colors?
I bought this hat for a friend with a large head and he loves it! It fits perfectly, not tight at all and he looks very handsome in it! The blue is rich and the quality too. Maybe a little too warm for working out in.
I used this hat all winter long: dog walks, trips to town and work, after skiing and running, and even in our cabin when it was really cold. The hat is warm, comfortable, and sheds snow well, and people say it looks good. The only downside is that it is a little big for my pea-head and occasionally would fall over my eyes. I still love it and am thinking about getting another in a different color.
Four of these and counting...! The colors are great; the style is attractive and functional. Usually "one size fits all" hats of either gender won't fit me, as my head is large, but this one fits very well. I'm grateful for the extra layers over the ears, particularly in this tough winter! Thanks again, Ibex!
This hat is just about perfect for me. Fits my (large) head, doesn't itch, keeps me warm, and even looks good. Very good protection in the snowstorm we had recently. I've ordered another one of these for my partner, to keep her from stealing mine.
Okay, I've owned about 5 of these hats... unlike most hats, if you leave this one behind somewhere, it WON'T get turned into the lost and found, it won't still be on the chair in the coffee shop where you were 1/2 hour ago, it won't be at the ski rental counter where you left it just 10 minutes ago! They are too warm, too stylish, too dang good looking.
I just purchased my third Top Knot hat. I have been wearing them since '01 or '02. Unfortunately my last 2 each dissapeared somehow, but that just speaks to how often I wear them and how many places they travel with me. There isn't a better hat I have found to keep you warm and comfortable on cold to incredibly cold days.
one size fits all is a bad idea for this hat...i know i have a small head, but i can't be the only one, this is the first hat that i buy that is too big.Otherwise great, but it is loose and when the wind is blowing, not as good as it could be.people with a small head [*] abstain
This is a warm hat which looks great and above all feels wonderful to the touch. You'll especially like the non-clammy feel and the hat's ability to weather showers and snowflakes well. If you're a cross-country skier this might be too warm a hat, but it handles even heavy perspiration wonderfully. Now the down side: sooner or later you'll want to wash it. Ibex recommends for most of its garments m
This hat is great. It is super warm, better for belay type situations rather than any level of activity. Its a bit big, which at first I didn't like but given that its best used when you aren't moving around alot, the over sized-ness I feel actually adds to the comfort.
I am picky about my hats and outerwear and this hat generally meets my criteria for a good hat - warm, a good fit, stylish. I have a smaller head so the fit is a bit looser than I generally prefer but it is comfortable and good for the cold winter we are having.
I normally live in the Renzo beanies, but when it's below zero, I pull this one out. It's think, warm, and not itchy. If you stick a piece of cardboard inside it you can make it look like a fez and pretend your a Shriner. Yep, I did that.
One complaint -- the tassel thing on top has frayed so badly where it attaches to the hat that I'm just going to cut it off. Seems like a weak point in the
I tried one of these hats on in a shop, and knew I had to have one. I think most hats look ridiculous on me (a short-haired retiree), but this one looks presentable and feels wonderful. I wear a beret most of the time in the winter, but wanted something warmer for very cold weather. I gave one to my daughter (long-haired, 25 years younger, looks good in all hats) for Christmas, and she loved
Loved this hat! Wish I could keep it but it is just too big for my head. I had considered ordering the women's Top Knot hat from the start but I really wasn't interested in any of the women's colors...maybe next year!
