All About The Wool
Wool Type +
We start with the best New Zealand Merino wool to make a range of insulative yet breathable midlayers that outdoor enthusiasts swear by. This exclusive knit is square and dense, creating a rugged yet soft fabric with inherent stretch and long-wearing durability. Our Shak fabric is best used as a midlayer but is soft enough to wear as an expedition-weight baselayer and substantial enough to be used as an outerlayer in some conditions. No matter how you wear it, the performance is unbeatable. Machine washable.
Benefits of Wool
Wool garments offer substantially more protection from UV exposure than traditional summer fabrics, like cotton.
Wool draws moisture away from the skin and evaporates moisture, regulating body temperature in all conditions.
Ibex wool products naturally include antimicrobial properties, keeping your garment odor-free.
Wool fights off weather and dirt and prevents stains, making Ibex easy to wash and easy to keep clean.
Because Ibex is made from very small micron diameter fibers, our garments are extremely soft and comfortable.
The craftspeople who are involved in every step of the process–from the sheep, to the spinners, to the sewers–are carefully hand-selected.
Because we use wool–a natural and renewable fiber– Ibex is good for you and good for the Earth.
Ibex wool garments resist heat. They don’t hold a flame and won’t melt like synthetic fabrics and fibers.
We recommend a general body measurement guide to determine your size in Ibex clothing. This sizing chart is not garment specific, but in fact a body measurement chart. Here are some helpful hints when measuring:
Bust/Chest: relax arms at sides, keeping the tape parallel to the floor, measure the fullest part of your bust/chest
Waist: keeping the measuring tape comfortably loose, measure around your natural waistline
Hips: standing with heels together, keep the tape straight and parallel to the floor, measure around the fullest part of hips
Sleeve Length: a 3-point measurement, standing with arms relaxed and slightly bent at sides, measure from the base of the neck to the shoulder and then from the shoulder to the wrist bone, add together measurements
Form-fit: garment designed to fit snug to the body throughout
Semi-fit: garment will be contoured to the body
Regular-fit: garment will not be slim, but also not oversized
Relaxed-fit: garment drapes loosely on body

I think I get it. The pocket on the side, the range-of-use. After a well thought out mis-start, I also think Ibex got it, too.
I was one of no doubt many who fell in love with the versatility, the durability, the outright comfort of the Shak Jersey, and lobbied Ibex to make a vest version. Their first attemptthe Kilometerwas not well received. I liked mine as a mid-layer for hiking/back
Just in time for fall. This vest has moved to the top of the do everything list. The shak material is light enough to comfortably layer under a jacket for the ride to work and strikes a great balance between added warmth and breathability to keep you from overheating. No need to take it off once at work, it is casual/ stylish enough to wear the rest of the day. I am looking forward to using backco
This vest is incredibly lightweight and slim, I feel very comfortable wearing it. As described, it does a great job on keeping warm. Besides, I love its simple and clean design, it match a variety types of clothes.
This is a great piece. I have it in red--it's just on the edge of too loud, but it's extremely well fitted (I have the medium, I'm 5'10" 155 lbs), and I wear it with office wear and it's very very sharp. I have strongly considered a second one in another color because of it's look and versatility. One of my favorites of my several Shaks.
This is one of the best pieces I have ever owned. Works well for everything: cool/cold weather MTB, climbing, skitouring, nordic skiing, beer drinking, sleeping under a tree, even under the trenchcoat if you have to spend a cold day in the city.
I have many Shak jackets - I love the snug fit (148lbs, 5'11", I wear a size S). The Shak vest is perfect over a t-shirt or dress shirt on the bike commute in. The side zipped pocket is perfectly positioned and holds a Blackberry very snugly. Please IBEX, make these in more colors!
After a few winters of sweating it out beneath even the thinnest of nylon/poly wind layers I decided to hunt for a lightweight, dense-knit wool vest to replace the windproof layer. After a couple of commutes in 20-25F temps I am happy to say the Shak Vest is everything I was looking for in an outer layer to cover a base and one-two LS jerseys. The fit is perfectly snug, the collar is high enough f
This vest gets used probably ever other day. It's soft, looks sharp, AND it's functional. My only gripe would be that it's maybe a little too short in length. I wear a medium, it fits well in the chest, but I don't like having a shirt billowing out from the bottom. The large wouldn't fit snugly enough to keep me warm. I'll just keep wearing skinny guy shirts and avoid bulky sweaters under this ves
So you know that wool is king and that the Shak is legendary. If I can add anything to the other reviews it's this: Low Profile. This vest is really warm for the weight, yet low pro enough to layer under a softshell or a hoodie. I only take this thing off to sleep.
I'm tall and skinny (6'3" 175#) and right between M & L. I got a L in this and I'm glad I did. It's pretty fitted (which is awe
