All About The Wool
Wool Type +
Each piece of Balance Seamless is knit on state-of-the-art Italian knitting machines that were made exclusively to knit seamless garments. Knit stitches can be changed within a garment to create body mapping which is a way to add additional comfort to each piece. We use 17.5 micron wool blended with just enough lycra for support and a next-to-the-skin body fit. Our sport tops have been tested and rated for support and size. Using wool in this medium has been the ultimate challenge. The resulting benefits of broad temperature regulation, natural odor-resistance, support, and overall comfort have proven beyond our original expectations.
Benefits of Wool
Wool garments offer substantially more protection from UV exposure than traditional summer fabrics, like cotton.
Wool draws moisture away from the skin and evaporates moisture, regulating body temperature in all conditions.
Ibex wool products naturally include antimicrobial properties, keeping your garment odor-free.
Wool fights off weather and dirt and prevents stains, making Ibex easy to wash and easy to keep clean.
Because Ibex is made from very small micron diameter fibers, our garments are extremely soft and comfortable.
The craftspeople who are involved in every step of the process–from the sheep, to the spinners, to the sewers–are carefully hand-selected.
Because we use wool–a natural and renewable fiber– Ibex is good for you and good for the Earth.
Ibex wool garments resist heat. They don’t hold a flame and won’t melt like synthetic fabrics and fibers.
We recommend a general body measurement guide to determine your size in Ibex clothing. This sizing chart is not garment specific, but in fact a body measurement chart. Here are some helpful hints when measuring:
Bust/Chest: relax arms at sides, keeping the tape parallel to the floor, measure the fullest part of your bust/chest
Waist: keeping the measuring tape comfortably loose, measure around your natural waistline
Hips: standing with heels together, keep the tape straight and parallel to the floor, measure around the fullest part of hips
Sleeve Length: a 3-point measurement, standing with arms relaxed and slightly bent at sides, measure from the base of the neck to the shoulder and then from the shoulder to the wrist bone, add together measurements
Form-fit: garment designed to fit snug to the body throughout
Semi-fit: garment will be contoured to the body
Regular-fit: garment will not be slim, but also not oversized
Relaxed-fit: garment drapes loosely on body

Sadly I have to revise my earlier review downward a bit. This bra remains quite comfortable and functions well with the straps crossed in back.
However, BOTH of mine very quickly started coming apart at the back, where the part with the hooks attaches to the rest of the band. This happened with both at about 1 month of wearing a few times a week, washed carefully by hand and hung to dry.
I bought this bra (my first merino wool bra) specifically to wear during 100 mile trail races, to help prevent the chills that set in when the sun goes down and I'm still in my sweaty, wet clothes. It is very soft and comfortable and provides sufficient support for me (36B). I wore it 3 times on runs with a half hour drive home afterward, and hand-washed/line dried it once. I am usually freezin
This was my first ibex bra, and when it arrived in the mail with the Balance Runner spandex-critters, I thought "No way am I getting those around me!" I am a size small in most every brand and most every article of clothing, and have consistently been a small in ibex, so I did not think twice when I ordered a small. Turns out, wool can be very deceiving! I wear this bra all the time and my Bala
I was so happy to find an Ibex bra with the hooks in back, as I find the band of the pull-over styles are too tight and/or ride up. This is by far the most comfortable bra I've found in a long time, I put it on and don't think about it again. It's comfy, soft, and breathable, and nice looking too. I wear mine for work, weekend, running/workout, yoga, and I'm sure it will rock for hiking and bac
I bought this bra on the recommendation of another cyclist who found this wool bra superior to synthetic for winter rides. I have now tried it both in cold weather and warm spring weather. It performed great in both conditions. I put it through a century ride with sunny skies and temps in the low 70s yesterday and did not even notice I was wearing it.
The balance bra is good for low/medium impact sport (if you have a small bust) The straps are convertible. I find crossing the straps creates more support. I am a 32/34b and the small fit great. The wool is so soft, comfortable and breathable. Doesn't irritate my skin like synthetics do. Look forward to purchasing more in the future.
I wear this bra running and cycling. It is lightweight-- as close to feeling like wearing nothing as i've come with a bra. I'm very small-chested, so support isn't really an issue. The fact that this bra is soft, cool in the summer, and never seems to smell is why i love it.
You won't throw your back out putting this bra on or taking it off. It's soft and comfy--not the least bit itchy--and gives good support. It has good adjustments. I wish it came in more colors, but the ones available are not bad. I use if for cycling and skiing; not sure it would be supportive enough for running.
A bra that's both reasonably supportive AND reasonably comfortable is a rare thing, indeed. I like that this one has the hook and eye closure--makes it much easier to get out of, and you can do that trick where you take it off by pulling out of your sleeve. (Important when camping in chilly weather--I hate having to get half naked in a freezing tent just to extract myself from my bra before bed!
When worn without crossing the straps: - I really appreciate that the straps sit comfortably on the outer shoulders rather than pressing down on the trapezius - also an advantage with garments that expose the upper back (keep in mind that the straps themselves are thick - so not good match for spaghetti straps)
I find this bra: - very comfortable - good support for general use (I do not use this
This is a great light/medium support bra. I usually purchase 34C regular bras, and I bought a medium here which fits perfectly. After wearing this bra it stretches out a little, but snaps right back after washing. The straps worn straight, or cris-cross work well either way. After many months, the straps became a little disfigured, but I can replace them if I source out new straps somewhere. I hav
Very comfortable bra as an alternative to my everyday bra - nice for weekends etc. but it's a low impact support bra for exercising at best. Yoga, skiing and biking would work. Running or even P90X type stuff - definitely not. I like my sports bras snug so I ordered a small which fits my 34C's nicely.
I love that Ibex has a hook-and-eye closure support bra. I wanted it to work. Unfortunately for me, when the straps are crossed, there is too much pressure close to my neck, and when the straps are uncrossed, they want to slide off my shoulders. I also have a special problem on my left side in back and the band hit at just the wrong place for me. I went with the bralette which does not give me
