All About The Wool
Wool Type +
We start with the best New Zealand Merino wool to make a range of insulative yet breathable midlayers that outdoor enthusiasts swear by. This exclusive weave is square and dense, creating a rugged yet soft knit with inherent stretch and long-wearing durability. Our Shak fabric is best used as a midlayer but is soft enough to wear as an expedition-weight baselayer and substantial enough to be used as an outerlayer in some conditions. No matter how you wear it, the performance is unbeatable. Machine washable.
Benefits of Wool
Wool garments offer substantially more protection from UV exposure than traditional summer fabrics, like cotton.
Wool draws moisture away from the skin and evaporates moisture, regulating body temperature in all conditions.
Ibex wool products naturally include antimicrobial properties, keeping your garment odor-free.
Wool fights off weather and dirt and prevents stains, making Ibex easy to wash and easy to keep clean.
Because Ibex is made from very small micron diameter fibers, our garments are extremely soft and comfortable.
The craftspeople who are involved in every step of the process–from the sheep, to the spinners, to the sewers–are carefully hand-selected.
Because we use wool–a natural and renewable fiber– Ibex is good for you and good for the Earth.
Ibex wool garments resist heat. They don’t hold a flame and won’t melt like synthetic fabrics and fibers.
We recommend a general body measurement guide to determine your size in Ibex clothing. This sizing chart is not garment specific, but in fact a body measurement chart. Here are some helpful hints when measuring:
Bust/Chest: relax arms at sides, keeping the tape parallel to the floor, measure the fullest part of your bust/chest
Waist: keeping the measuring tape comfortably loose, measure around your natural waistline
Hips: standing with heels together, keep the tape straight and parallel to the floor, measure around the fullest part of hips
Sleeve Length: a 3-point measurement, standing with arms relaxed and slightly bent at sides, measure from the base of the neck to the shoulder and then from the shoulder to the wrist bone, add together measurements
Form-fit: garment designed to fit snug to the body throughout
Semi-fit: garment will be contoured to the body
Regular-fit: garment will not be slim, but also not oversized
Relaxed-fit: garment drapes loosely on body

I have two. As a woman, having two of the exact same thing may not be unusual. Believe me, for me it is. One is a med. and one is a small. I'm 5'8" and a pretty athletic build (re: narrow chest 34A). I would have thought the med. would be perfect but it fits a little looser...not bad, more like a cardigan and the small fits trimmer and it's nice to have the differences depending on what I'm w
This is my favorite piece of clothing since the red wool boy scout shirt I wore every day 14 years ago. I love the fit, the no-itch fabric, the warmth. I really do wear this to work with a skirt & then find I can't take it off & just wear it to bed. I just bought one in another color, which is something I, the thrift shop shopper, never have done. Thanks for making such an exceptional product.
I bought the orange color because it was on sale in my price range. Was concerned I might not like the color as I am not fond of orange usually. But, as usual, Ibex pleased me with this lovely coat--the color is softer than it appears online to me and more of a coral than a true orange. It is a nice weight and I am sure I will get lots of use out of it during cooler months. It is very stylish. I w
I discovered the Shak full zip in 2007 while looking for a wool athletic type jacket/sweater. Since then I have owned 5 Shak full zip jackets and adding more. These are the most versatile piece of clothing I own. I love this jacket and IBEX clothing!!!! I can dress it down with simple t-shirt or dress it up with a silk blouse. I love the smoothness of the fabric which I have not found it to p
I bought yet another Shak full zip because these are my favorite year round go everywhere jacket. I have experienced the hip pockets will soon flatten against my body after a few times wearing or simply hanging on it's hanger. At first I didn't like those pockets being right on top of my hips but this jacket turned out to be my favorite. The full zip style is the most versatile of the Shak fami
I am happy to say that this Shak does live up to all the good things I've read about it. It fits well, is comfortable and goes everywhere! I have worn it on cool days this fall out on the farm and also to town to run errands. I am 5'7" and 120 lbs with wide shoulders -- the medium suits me with a layer underneath. So glad I bought it.
Shak is my favorite Ibex fabric because it looks good, doesn't pick up *too* much cat hair, and is very durable. After trying most of the Ibex zip-up tops, the Shak Full Zip is the one I've decided is my favorite. I hope they keep making it, because I plan to keep buying it.
Two caveats: 1) I find that it runs a little more snug than other Ibex tops. Normally I take a Large, but I prefer Extra La
I use this jersey under a windbreaker for cold weather cycling. It breathes extremely well, fits great and is warm without being bulky or heavy. In fact, the fit is very flattering. It's also attractive enough to wear on weekends or to work.
The side zip pockets are functional and add interest. A great jersey!
I cannot say enough good things about this sweater and about Ibex! I own quite a few Ibex shirts in different weights, but this is my favorite for its versatility and warmth.
I love these as a mid-layer for hiking 14ers in the summer and skiing in the winter. I'm an avid traveler, and a Shak goes with me on every trip. I haven't found another fabric that can beat its wrinkle-resistance and ant
The beauty of this piece (and the shak line in general) is that there's nothing superfluous about it. It does its job, and looks good doing it. I got my usual size (5'6", 125, medium) which gives me plenty of room for a couple layers underneath, but the cut and weight are such that even if I'm wearing just a thin base layer, the shak fz holds its flattering shape. I love the new cuff treatment b
The black plum color is spectacular and Ibex has the Shak down to an art by now. The fit is classic, trim, and beautiful. The fabric is rugged without being too heavy. It does not get any better than this.
I own many Ibex pieces and this is a great addition. Warm, comfortable, nice styling, goes everywhere and with everything. Pulled-together casual suit look over Loose Tights for work, with jeans on days home. Only slight question is the tiny "bump" over the hip where side zippered pocket lies. Could be a smoother line, but it's not unflattering. If you're a bit "hippy," could present an issue.
This particular sweater was a gift, but I already owned two of the men's. These sweaters are great, they are light weight and warm, making them great for layering! I took mine on a recent research trip to Antarctica and with this and the thermal shirts from Ibex as base layers, I was both warm and dry! Definitely recommend this to all of my friends.
Shak Full Zip is a great update, 2 way zip, even better pockets. I have 2 full zips older models that I wear for everything outdoors so I bought this new one in the beautiful turquoise. I am tall (5'11" 144 lbs) with long arms and the Shak sleeve length covers my wrist bone and fits close in an M. I've dumped all my fleece in favor of the Shaks, no pilling, no stink, and they're breathable.
I feel compelled to defend the pockets of the new Shak style. They don't stick out unpleasantly at all on me (and I am curvy), and I find them more useful than the one pocket on the previous Shak style. Maybe because I am curvy, that single pocket's placement is not the best for me. Please don't change the pockets! It took me some time to discover the Shak in the Ibex line, but now that I have,
I already have a Shak Jacket (purple) and a green Ibex hoody, but I needed something for a work trip to Yellowstone--functional, yet semi-professional. Black FZ Shak jacket: perfect. It was warm, comfortable, and stood up to a week's worth of hiking, learning, and bar hopping. Love, love, love this super functional piece.
I love this new design for the Shak! The double zipper allows for unzipping at the top and the bottom. Unzipping the bottom makes for a very flattering look. The unique seaming is also very flattering and comfortable to wear.
Used for Layering- Quality of the wool & knit is great.- Especially Like the 2-way zipper.- Don't like the fit as well as the fit of the classic shak (Prefer the classic shak's more "trim" fit)- Prefer the sleeve cuff treatment of the classic shak, as the sleeves on both are too long and I must roll them up.- Please make more women's items in size XL.
I love this jacket because it's lightweight and cozy and comfortable for a wide range of temperature conditions. It's great to grab at times when it's warm but temps may dip (like today). I like the sleek fit and I do like those unusual pockets, I think they give the jacket a nice line for me. Though small, I seem to have wide shoulders and long arms and relatively narrow waist and hip. This j
great zip up. I got the darker grey color and love it. I am 5'8 and built like an athlete (not a stick) and it is not so snug that I look ridiculous and not loose that it still doesn't look good. I would buy it again
I love the looks of this piece, the length is great in the body and arms, I am 5'7, 125 and always wear a small in ibex. This sweater is no expection expect, when fully zipped it's a litte too tight in the neck. I would love to see that relaxed so it would leave enough room for base layer with a neck. I use it for all my outdoor fun and wear it to work.
I have this already in black and LOVE it, wear it a lot. Was so hopeful about the same wonderful product in what I thought would be a nice white or soft ivory. Was very disappointed to find that "Snow" was a kind of murky grey-green color, very unflattering to me anyway. Too bad---because the Shak is so super great otherwise. I sent it back.
Lovely wool, great styling, except for the pockets. I am sending it back, as they stick out dramatically on both sides. I can't make them sit flat against my sides no matter what I do. Shame, I love most Ibex products and had high hopes for this one.
I completely agree with the above commenter saying: "I love the material, however the hidden side zipper pockets are to stiff and stick out, preventing the jacket from laying as it is tailored to. It looks odd and lumpy from the side and back. You can't comfortably put your hands in the pockets because they are directly on the side, not front."
I would also add that it's really hard to work the z
I love the material, however the hidden side zipper pockets are to stiff and stick out, preventing the jacket from laying as it is tailored to. It looks odd and lumpy from the side and back. You can't comfortably put your hands in the pockets because they are directly on the side, not front. Also the waist is too wide and needs to be smaller and reinforced. Due to the stiffness of the full zip,
