You might expect the Shak to be a more boisterous piece of Merino wool perfection after kicking off a wool revolution, ushering in sustainable fabric in sport clothing before it was a marketable fad. But there it is, looking subtle and refined. The 21 micron weight begs to be used in an endless collection of activity and wears like iron. Go ahead and buy it, the Shak will stay smooth and unruffled through whatever fuss you make for it.

All About The Wool
Wool Type +
We start with the best New Zealand Merino wool to make a range of insulative yet breathable midlayers that outdoor enthusiasts swear by. This exclusive knit is square and dense, creating a rugged yet soft fabric with inherent stretch and long-wearing durability. Our Shak fabric is best used as a midlayer but is soft enough to wear as an expedition-weight baselayer and substantial enough to be used as an outerlayer in some conditions. No matter how you wear it, the performance is unbeatable. Machine washable.
Benefits of Wool
Wool garments offer substantially more protection from UV exposure than traditional summer fabrics, like cotton.
Wool draws moisture away from the skin and evaporates moisture, regulating body temperature in all conditions.
Ibex wool products naturally include antimicrobial properties, keeping your garment odor-free.
Wool fights off weather and dirt and prevents stains, making Ibex easy to wash and easy to keep clean.
Because Ibex is made from very small micron diameter fibers, our garments are extremely soft and comfortable.
The craftspeople who are involved in every step of the process–from the sheep, to the spinners, to the sewers–are carefully hand-selected.
Because we use wool–a natural and renewable fiber– Ibex is good for you and good for the Earth.
Ibex wool garments resist heat. They don’t hold a flame and won’t melt like synthetic fabrics and fibers.
We recommend a general body measurement guide to determine your size in Ibex clothing. This sizing chart is not garment specific, but in fact a body measurement chart. Here are some helpful hints when measuring:
Bust/Chest: relax arms at sides, keeping the tape parallel to the floor, measure the fullest part of your bust/chest
Waist: keeping the measuring tape comfortably loose, measure around your natural waistline
Hips: standing with heels together, keep the tape straight and parallel to the floor, measure around the fullest part of hips
Sleeve Length: a 3-point measurement, standing with arms relaxed and slightly bent at sides, measure from the base of the neck to the shoulder and then from the shoulder to the wrist bone, add together measurements
Form-fit: garment designed to fit snug to the body throughout
Semi-fit: garment will be contoured to the body
Regular-fit: garment will not be slim, but also not oversized
Relaxed-fit: garment drapes loosely on body

This can go from strenuous hike to post-hike drinks in a flash. Looks great, fits great, and it doesn't stretch and lose it's shape. I get many wears out of it between washings. It couldn't be any better.
I wear Medium in most clothing, including other items by Ibex. The Large is what fits me in the Shak. I wouldn't have known this had I not tried on some Ibex items in a local clothing store before I ordered anything online. I love everything I bought from Ibex. But I wish the sizing were more consistent.
This is my second Shak, I've owned a hooded version for about 3 years. My go to winter wear, either as a base layer for a light exercise day or as my main piece if I'm really working hard. Covers down to my hips nicely without being too tight or floppy loose.
Using this top for work and casual wear for a while as it seems "too nice" to work out in for now. Lots of complements so far on how nice it looks. I am inbetween sizes and went up one so I can layer over another shirt without being too tight. Nice lines so even though a little big it drapes nicely.
This is hard to conceptualize until you see one; they are a knit that you wouldn't really call a sweater but heavier and warmer than any other jersey you've had. I get cold easily so I want these probably ten months out of the year but most would find it comfortable around the house and on errands in the winter and as a only/second layer under a shell for aerobic activities. Make no mistake; these
I wear this as a general indoors sweater. It is typical Ibex high quality -- well made, comfortable, warm. It could easily be used for outdoor sports, but it looks stylish enough for general wear. I like the fact that it is a simple, plain black and isn't fancied up with any other colors or fabric swatches.
I had purchased a Shak about 8 years ago. I wore it for a few years and for some reason I decided to try synthetic mid-layers. This winter I took the Shak out of the closet and wore it as a med- layer for backcountry skiing. It was incredible! It kept me warm (shell over it/thin baselayer under it), and was extremelly breathable. Unlike the synthetic med-layers (Patagonia etc.), I did not overheat
Very good garment. But if you machine wash in cold water it will still shrink so you might want to order a size up if you use this garment as a sweater to go over a blouse or turtleneck. The shrinkage will not signifcantly affect using this garment if it is used over a t-shirt or as an undergarment layer for outdoor activities (snowboarding, snowmobile etc)
This sweater is bomb proof. I've had it for over 5 years and it's still going strong. There is a little wear on the cuffs but it's mostly from commuter cycling through the winter rains with the the sleeves pulled over my hands. The Shak always comes with me on every backpack and day hike. Cozy walking the ridgelines and also in camp when the nighttime mountain temps drop.
The collar is greatly improved compared to previous shaks (it is two layers of material instead of a single layer with a rather umcomfortable seam). The sleeves are not too long and have a nice size cuff.
I really enjoy wearing this shirt. It is so versatile. I wear it with a woolie underneath. I've been running, skiing, out playing with the kids, and sitting around the house in this combo and have always been comfortable. I am sometimes an XS and other times a S. The small fits me well - XS would have been too tight in the arms.
I love all things Ibex. I wear Ibex shirts, shorts, sweaters, and underwear every day. For a heavier layer, the Shak fabric is my favorite. It is warm, lightweight, very durable, and stylish. The cat hair also comes off pretty easily (more than with the Energy or the Boucle).
I appreciate the Shak Jersey in particular for its simple styling, without extra colors, patches, designs, etc. I also lik
I probably own six of these. I love them, just love them. I recently ordered a new one, and the fit had been changed. What a huge disappointment! I had to send it back. Now I have to look carefully at the picture to make sure that the Shak I am ordering has a 1/2" sleeve hem, rather than a 1 1/2" sleeve hem. How very, very sad.
This was a gift (bought at retail) to my wife to replace a very worn Ibex zipneck.
She uses it to run, to cycle in cold weather, around the house, as underwear in extreme cold conditions. It snags easily--it is three weeks old, and already has a loose threads as a result. It was nicely made and finished, and fits her very well. She likes it a lot.
I love this sweater, and especially the Shiraz color. It is a dark, mauve pink and very pretty. I wear this mostly to work, and I would even like it a little thicker and warmer. I am 5'9" tall and it fits perfectly in the arms and hits mid-hip. A great fit.
