Modeled after wood cutter caps from central Europe this heavyweight, billed cap is a great barrier against the elements. 25 micron cold water processed Austrian Wool. Hand wash.
This fabric has been around for over five hundred years and is still made in Austria where mountain origins can be felt in the heavyweight 25 micron fiber. Cold water processed, Ibex marries Loden tradition with progressive design by cutting the old world fabric into some of our most modern pieces. 100% Cold Water Processed Austrian Wool.
Benefits of Wool
Wool garments offer substantially more protection from UV exposure than traditional summer fabrics, like cotton.
Wool draws moisture away from the skin and evaporates moisture, regulating body temperature in all conditions.
Ibex wool products naturally include antimicrobial properties, keeping your garment odor-free.
Wool fights off weather and dirt and prevents stains, making Ibex easy to wash and easy to keep clean.
Because Ibex is made from very small micron diameter fibers, our garments are extremely soft and comfortable.
The craftspeople who are involved in every step of the process–from the sheep, to the spinners, to the sewers–are carefully hand-selected.
Because we use wool–a natural and renewable fiber– Ibex is good for you and good for the Earth.
Ibex wool garments resist heat. They don’t hold a flame and won’t melt like synthetic fabrics and fibers.
We recommend a general body measurement guide to determine your size in Ibex clothing. This sizing chart is not garment specific, but in fact a body measurement chart. Here are some helpful hints when measuring:
Bust/Chest: relax arms at sides, keeping the tape parallel to the floor, measure the fullest part of your bust/chest
Waist: keeping the measuring tape comfortably loose, measure around your natural waistline
Hips: standing with heels together, keep the tape straight and parallel to the floor, measure around the fullest part of hips
Sleeve Length: a 3-point measurement, standing with arms relaxed and slightly bent at sides, measure from the base of the neck to the shoulder and then from the shoulder to the wrist bone, add together measurements
Form-fit: garment designed to fit snug to the body throughout
Semi-fit: garment will be contoured to the body
Regular-fit: garment will not be slim, but also not oversized
Relaxed-fit: garment drapes loosely on body

this hat is the best I've ever owned for staying comfortable in inclement weather. I wore it almost daily on a bike tour across the Americas over the past year and a half. Rain and cold? no prob, it sheds water pretty darn well and insulates even when wet. wind and snow? great, it blocks the wind. 40 - 50 and sunny? you stay warm and your eyes shaded. I could even squeeze it under my bik
I run year round, living on Pikes Peak. This morning was a lovely 8 mile run on virgin trails and snow packed roads at 9F. I kept my Indi and Shak hoods off and wore only this (saving the hoods for if I stopped). Wonderful hat for cold aerobic running, or for cooler temps and slower outdoor activities.
For those griping about the hat stretching out, I've not noticed it much, but washing it will
I have been admiring this hat for a while and I finally bought it in the blue color (true to color shown on my screen). When I first got it it felt too tight but as I suspected, once I wore it for a week or two and broke it in it fit my head perfectly. This hat is nice and warm, and the brim is both stylish (I love a brimmed hat) and functional- it keeps flying snow off my eyes when I'm working
I live in the Upper Midwest, on the border of Wisconsin, and it gets COLD. I'm actually a southern man originally so suffice it to say I freeze to death every year here. I'm a big believer in the saying "penny wise, dollar foolish", so I spend good money the first time for quality items that last. This is one of those items. I didn't know much about wool before I moved, so I did some serious resea
I bought this hat in the summer so I haven't used it yet. But I have been in search of a wool hat with a brim. It is very sunny where I live so having a warm hat that also blocks the sun is perfect. It also covers my ears. It looks like it is woven tight enough to block the wind. The only thing I don't love about it is that it says ibex on it. I would much rather have the logo.
Gift for my wife but I get to share. Just enough brim but not like a baseball hat (that's a plus). Gets the bottom of the ear lobes but not goofy at all. We live in NH where functional winter wear precedes style. This cap has both. Two thumbs up.
This hat was supposed to be for me but when my nine year old daughter saw it she immediately took a great liking to it. This is the hat of choice when she goes outside. If she is not wearing it, it is my hat of choice. It is constructed so well that it feels so comfortable on our heads. My eyes are sensitive to light and the brim is a big plus.
I saw this cap for sale at Ibex. This company only provides high quality goods; so I knew this cap was well made. The Euro Loden cap is unique by being the only cap Ive found that has a lid and a generous wool cap that hides my ears; no other cap made does both. The cap feels light weight and definitly keeps my head warm in cool weather[...]
This is the perfect fall and winter hat for city living, as well as for hiking excursions in unpredictable weather. The green is gorgeous, better than shown in the photo, and fits perfectly. I love how it folds in half so I can put it in my day bag.
The biggest plus about this hat is that they cover your ears. Not only that, they have an extra layering around the ears so they stay warm. And an added bonus is the sun visor. I haven't worn them yet but you can't go wrong with IBEX. I look forward to wearing them on cold days or when I head to the snow. I bought them in two different colors and am happy with both.
This is a really beautiful, quality hat. It is warm and really stylish. I have the silver color and the green and they are both really nice. I mostly use this for doing things around town and it keeps me warm and provides good coverage.
I wear this every day in our cold climate. It breathes, keeps me warm, but seemed to stretch out a bit after two days. Still -- I do like it. It keeps me warm, and I know it looks great! One size doe NOT fit all -- it was a bit too big for my husband, and does not adjust. But I like it, and he does too, but no fit for him.
I like the baseball style of the cap with the visor. It is good looking and warm. I wear it in cold and/or snowy weather when I walk my dogs. My only comment is that I hope I can shrink it by washing in hot water or putting in dryer so that it isn't quite so large on my small head!
I like wearing this hat around town - warm and not itchy on the forehead. The only negative comment might be that the overall volume/height of the hat seems just a bit too great -- find that I have to pull it down almost over my ears to fill up the crown of the hat with my head, but this is OK on a chilly/windy day!
To try it on I left the tag on (of course) so the hat sat on top of my head like a conductor's hat and wasn't flattering. But undecided I took it with me on a trip to Maine, thinking I'd give it to my daughter. It was pouring rain so I took it out of my suitcase, and ah ha--with the tag removed I could pull it down snug and it was both flattering and warm. I could even put my hood up over and it w
I love this hat for winter walking, I wear it daily during the winter months for walking the dog. Its warm, comfortable, and the short bill is excellent for keeping the falling snow off of my eyeglasses. I do wish that it was just a half inch longer to more completely cover my ears - if it was then it would be great for backcountry skiing when I need to better keep the wind out of my ears. But thi
I found the material and workmanship on par with other ibex products I've purchased over the years, truly great. My only negative point would be sizing, I have a fairly large head but still found the hat to be too large and over all just not form fitting.
this is a snug-fitting warm hat. it is a little goofy-looking, but i like that it fits snugly and i feel really warm with it on. i don't think it's the most fashion-forward thing i own, but that's okay b/c it feels good.
When I bought this hat I was a bit skeptical because it was a one-size hat for both men and women, but the pictures were very cute on the website. I wanted a warm wool non-stocking hat style that could cover my ears in a pinch. Unfortunately my face is long and narrow and the brim of the hat just looked too wide on me. The style of the hat is cute and would have liked to keep it! Opted for a
Although I loved the soft, warm, cozy fabric, and a brim that would have kept snow out of my eyes, I had to return this. The sizing is all off - too much material on top, so you have to pull the hat down over your ears so it won't fly off. The problem that I found though as an eyeglass wearer is that the brim of the hat just wouldn't accommodate the temples (arms) of my eyeglasses. If you don't wear eyeglasses, these will probably work. I wish this had been more like a baseball cap design - this would have fit my head better without all the surplus height this hat has and I could still wear my glasses. A miss rather than a hit.
The hat width is fine, but it is way too high, even if you pull the hat down over your ears, there is a lot of extra fabric on top. Does not look as in the pictures, only would work if you have hair like Marge Simpson.
