All About The Wool
Wool Type +
The workhorse of Ibex fabrics, Zepher is made with an interlock knit that is durable, stretches naturally, and enhances the easy softness of 100% Merino wool. We use this 18.5 micron fabric for mid-weight layers designed for maximal versatility.
Benefits of Wool
Wool garments offer substantially more protection from UV exposure than traditional summer fabrics, like cotton.
Wool draws moisture away from the skin and evaporates moisture, regulating body temperature in all conditions.
Ibex wool products naturally include antimicrobial properties, keeping your garment odor-free.
Wool fights off weather and dirt and prevents stains, making Ibex easy to wash and easy to keep clean.
Because Ibex is made from very small micron diameter fibers, our garments are extremely soft and comfortable.
The craftspeople who are involved in every step of the process–from the sheep, to the spinners, to the sewers–are carefully hand-selected.
Because we use wool–a natural and renewable fiber– Ibex is good for you and good for the Earth.
Ibex wool garments resist heat. They don’t hold a flame and won’t melt like synthetic fabrics and fibers.
We recommend a general body measurement guide to determine your size in Ibex clothing. This sizing chart is not garment specific, but in fact a body measurement chart. Here are some helpful hints when measuring:
Bust/Chest: relax arms at sides, keeping the tape parallel to the floor, measure the fullest part of your bust/chest
Waist: keeping the measuring tape comfortably loose, measure around your natural waistline
Hips: standing with heels together, keep the tape straight and parallel to the floor, measure around the fullest part of hips
Sleeve Length: a 3-point measurement, standing with arms relaxed and slightly bent at sides, measure from the base of the neck to the shoulder and then from the shoulder to the wrist bone, add together measurements
Form-fit: garment designed to fit snug to the body throughout
Semi-fit: garment will be contoured to the body
Regular-fit: garment will not be slim, but also not oversized
Relaxed-fit: garment drapes loosely on body

My hips get cold when I sit all day in my cold/moderate office...unless I'm wearing my Zepher Boxers. They warm me right up, and keep me warm, while the rest of me is comfortable. In the office, I usually wear them over cotton briefs to keep them from having to be washed as often. In the great outdoors, I wear them occasionally. I'm a little laundry-shy, so they are usually not my base layer. If I
Three days of skiing the Resurection trail in Alaska and the roaster was comfortable, warm and ODOR FREE!!! Simply the best backcountry next to skin boxer I have ever worn for skiing and cold weather camping. by the way - I liked the old name - the 'nut roaster'!!!
i absolutely love this product from Ibex. I now own a small fortune in this underwear style, and they are worth every penny. My only complaint is that sometimes the waist band twists in the wash, and you have to "un-twist" it. It is not hard to do, and is kind of a petty complaint.
I wear these for everything, BC skiing, hiking, fishing, work, casual, you name it!
This is my 3rd pair. Not because the other have worn out, but that I wear them pretty much all the time in the winter (I am wearing a pair right now). I figured an extra pair would help me either A: help keep the laundry loads less frequent. Or B: keep the grunge factor down. They are great for any outdoor activity, but my preferred uses are when I am either telemarking, or xc skiing out in the wo
I have one rule... I won't wear underwear unless it's wool. I'd rather go commando than wear cotton boxers. That is why I wear Roaster Boxers every day (Completely true). For the super intense activities, I would definitely take the Balance Runner Short, but for everything else it has to be the Roasters. If you're already sold on wool, and Ibex, but not sure about the Roaster Boxers, then buy
I haven't worn cotton socks in over a decade because my feet were always wet with cotton so I started wondering why I was putting up with wet cotton underwear so I decided to make the switch to wool underwear and bought a couple of pairs of the Zepher boxers. I chose the Zephers based on the reviews I read here and I really liked them so ordered eight more pairs, so I should be set for a few year
Let's face it, cotton briefs absorb and HOLD moisture right next to your body. They also retain odors. This can life very miserable both for you and those around you.
But, now Ibex has come to our rescue and developed a VERY SOFT and washable wool brief that does everything we want briefs to do. They provide good support without being restrictive; they wick away moisture and dry quickly; and
Just returned from several weeks of hiking in the Dolomites and these shorts were perfect...good fit, hard-wearing, perfect for multi-day hut-to-hut hikes. They were "warm in the morning and cool in the afternoon"...one of the great benefits of wool, a broader comfort temperature range. No chafing, no bunching, great fit, great support...an instant favorite for long days on the trail.
I'm on my third (or fourth?) "generation" of these. They're the best product in the area that I have found so far - not synthetic, comfortable, and capable of being used as a base layer for anything and everything.
Very warm, thick wool like I'd hoped - these are just what long trips at extreme temps need. Anybody who has skied or mushed into a headwind at cold temps knows what I'm talking about - there are just parts of a guy's body that need extra warmth and protection, and this is the first step. Do wish they'd have more colors than just black, but that's alright; and they aren't terribly stretchy, so if
I won these at a ski race raffle and at the time I was not very excited about them. However once I used them, I realized these are a must have for my nordic skiing. I asked Santa for some more because they keep me oh so toasty!
I use these for all day backcountry ski tours and they don't stink! Even on multiday and night hut trips they don't scare of your bunk mates! Fabric is soft and wicks moisture well even on those sprint to the top to get the powder first skin tracks. Only minuses: I don't like the waist height above my belly button Granny panty look and the legs ride up a bit. But I will still buy another pair
When I received these, I immediately liked the weight and feel, but it took some getting used to before I was completely happy. The first thing I noticed was the seam across the lower bum. After sitting around for a few hours, I definitely noticed that the seam was in an odd spot and a bit uncomfortable. After a few wearings, I no longer noticed so much, and now I wouldn't even say it's that big o
so the bottomline with these are that you want to only wear them when you are going to be outside in the cold. i wore them once to work and was just way too warm. it's awesome how they have an extra high waste and go extra low on your legs so that you dont get those awkward cold spots where pants meet shirt.
These are my favorite boxers. I have several different wool boxers but these are the best and most comfortable by a large margin.
COMFORT: The heavy weight of the Zepher wool is amazing and never too warm. This is due largely to the fact that wool breathes so well. The merino is comfortable as a base layer and never "itchy". Ibex has selected the ideal material for this garment.
I needed some flat crotch seamed, (to avoid chafing from the bicycle seat) fast drying good looking black briefs to wear under my bicycling shorts. Being black I can hang them under my bicycle shorts drying in my cube and no one is offended!
However the waist is about 2" taller than my bicycle shorts. I own the Ibex ElFito 3/4 and Tights for bicycling and both of those are long waisted, but these
In most boxers the waistband fabric is sewn through the elastic, but in the Zephyr it is not. Feels nice, but results in a couple of cons. One mentioned in another review is that the elastic can become twisted, not a big deal to me. The other con is that without the sew-through, the elastic slides against the top edge of the waistband every time it is stretched, which is every time I put them on o
I love the fabric weight of these boxers, and really wanted to like them. The merino wool has a great hand and doesn't itch or chafe. Unfortunately, like most of the Ibex products I own, more work needs to be done on the patterning. The rise (distance from crotch to waistband) is too tall, causing the waist to almost reach my belly button. Otherwise this is a great concept with an almost-there exe
I loved the concept of these underwear but when my husband tried them on he immediately aged 20 years and looked like an old man who had to pull up his britches to keep them on! The fabric is great, the concept is great, the fit is made for someone over 80 who needs to keep his navel warm as he snow shoes.
Waist band looks strange. The shorts are way too long, and that will make anyone who puts them on look and feel like a grandpa. The length also makes them unsuitable for summer. Seriously, Ibex needs to hire a fashion designer. Trolling through an 1890 edition of the [...] catalog for garment ideas doesn't cut it anymore. Especially when you consider the astronomical prices Ibex charges for lousy
