All About The Wool
Wool Type +
We developed our ultra-versatile, midweight 100% New Zealand Merino wool baselayer Zepher fabric using an interlock stitch. This simple, double knit stitch forms a fabric that offers high performance, great natural stretch and recovery. Its smooth surface enhances softness and layering ease. The fabric is "no stink," sustainable and machine washable and is the ultimate baselayer choice.
Benefits of Wool
Wool garments offer substantially more protection from UV exposure than traditional summer fabrics, like cotton.
Wool draws moisture away from the skin and evaporates moisture, regulating body temperature in all conditions.
Ibex wool products naturally include antimicrobial properties, keeping your garment odor-free.
Wool fights off weather and dirt and prevents stains, making Ibex easy to wash and easy to keep clean.
Because Ibex is made from very small micron diameter fibers, our garments are extremely soft and comfortable.
The craftspeople who are involved in every step of the process–from the sheep, to the spinners, to the sewers–are carefully hand-selected.
Because we use wool–a natural and renewable fiber– Ibex is good for you and good for the Earth.
Ibex wool garments resist heat. They don’t hold a flame and won’t melt like synthetic fabrics and fibers.
We recommend a general body measurement guide to determine your size in Ibex clothing. This sizing chart is not garment specific, but in fact a body measurement chart. Here are some helpful hints when measuring:
Bust/Chest: relax arms at sides, keeping the tape parallel to the floor, measure the fullest part of your bust/chest
Waist: keeping the measuring tape comfortably loose, measure around your natural waistline
Hips: standing with heels together, keep the tape straight and parallel to the floor, measure around the fullest part of hips
Sleeve Length: a 3-point measurement, standing with arms relaxed and slightly bent at sides, measure from the base of the neck to the shoulder and then from the shoulder to the wrist bone, add together measurements
Form-fit: garment designed to fit snug to the body throughout
Semi-fit: garment will be contoured to the body
Regular-fit: garment will not be slim, but also not oversized
Relaxed-fit: garment drapes loosely on body

One word....Amazing! This base layer is always the base of only 2 layers. Cycling and running as low as 25 degrees so far...on the beach. Dog walking rain or snow. I truly use it a lot. No pilling, strong seams, no signs of wear. Nice wicking ability, never have to remove before that infamous chill. Perfect for fall and winter especially when the sun is not up yet or already down.
I bought these to be substitutes for Woolies when I want to wear very warm leggings this freezing winter. I've found that I wear them constantly: as leggings with long sweaters, when working in the house, to the gym, etc etc. Super comfortable and not so tight that you're hanging out. Bought a second pair for when these eventually make their way to the wash machine!
Ok, after I ordered these during one of the coldest, snowiest winters in Maryland in a long, long time - it warmed up. However, our nights are still cool. I have actually been using these as pajama bottoms with a woolie long sleeve top - soooo much better than flannel pajamas on a cold night! Keeps me so much warmer and breaths better than cotton. Maybe we'll have another cold winter and I can
I was a bit uncertain about getting these, but now I've relegated all the silks and polypro bottoms to the back of the drawer. The Long Janes are a wonderful mid-weight and so soft--absolutely no itching. I wear them tele and xc skiing under softshell pants--not too hot for active sports, but warm enough to keep me comfortable on days in the teens. Legs are long, so all you tall girls should still
I bought these because I love my Roaster Boxers so much. Same marvellous quality, longer legs! In fact, the leg length is fabulous, not too short. I've worn these as running and biking tights, and under jeans and work clothes. They don't catch on my pants, they don't pill, and they have survived many trips through the washing machine.
I would call this midweight long underwear. A great weight, could be a legging under something else. Expected quality and construction. These relegate my Icebreaker lightweights to backup status. I'm living in these this winter. I went down 1 size for a snug fit.
I absolutley love these! They are the best wool long underwear and I have tried all the other main brands. They are sooo nice and soft and comfortable and fit extremely well too. Great product!! Thanks!
I love these long janes so much that I bought a pair of long johns for my husband and am going to buy a pair of the 3/4 janes too. They fit beautifully and are great under regular pants as well as sports gear like ski pants and waterproof sheels. I use them mostly for cross country skiing and sitting around the fire with a long sweater. I especially appreciate the normal waistline. With so man
These rock my world - I wear them under almost all of my pants come winter in VT. When it is a balmy 3 degrees out and the wind chill drops the temp to a bitter 17 below zero, well I just don't even notice. These keep me warm and stylish - they fit under all pants, regardless of how fitted the outer pants are, leaving me looking great and feeling even better!
Working at home these days, these tights are the official uniform of the "office." I didn't know what I was going to use these for (other than thick thermal underwear.) I loved them so much, I bought a second pair. Comfortable, non-restricting, breathable, warm without leaving me overheated. The best.
I love these long janes. They are light enough for spring. Great for layering under ski pants, rain pants, running shorts. I wore then for a week night and day and they were great for a range of conditions from sleeping through hiking. My only (small) complaint is that I was a bit baggy in the knees at the end.
These are perfect. They look and feel great. I slept in them the first night I got them and they fit so well I can see them being one of the best layering investments I have ever made. I am 5'9" with a long torso and these are long enough both in the leg and from the waist to the crotch.
Perfect weight for winter leggings under tunics and dresses with boots (my usual winter uniform). Will use them under my clothes when the weather gets really cold as well. They are the quality you'd expect from Ibex, and the small fit my 5'7", 130lb frame perfectly. Wish they came in other colors.
These tights are amazing: comfortable, attractive, nice fit, warm. I'm 5'8" and the Large are perfect plus long enough for a tall person. I also have the 150 woolies long johns which are snuggly and comfy, but ordered these LongJanes since they are more opaque and seem dressier to wear around town or to work. Also liked the Energy Free Tights and would have kept those if I still lived in snow co
i wear these around the house for warmth and comfort. much nicer waistband than icebreakers! they would be fine to wear out, as well...i just enjoy cozying up with some clothes that look good as well as feel good.
I like this under layer like the Inde Crew top I wear this all year round. It is great when I go kayaking I wear them under my shorts. I am paddling up in the San Juan Island where the water is 50 degrees. Not warm water and Zephers are the best they keep me warm even when I am wet. I have to watch the bolts that hold the boat together and make sure they do not put a hole in the knee area. In the
I bought these to use as long underwear but I ended up using them for pajamas instead. They are warm but I never feel clammy or over heated in them. I never want to take them off. Probably the best [$] I ever spent on clothing.
I've worn the Ibex woolies for the last 2 years and I love them. I love these as well for when I need something warmer. These are my favorite to wear with a skirt on a cold day. They haven't felt bulky when I wear them under pants.
I did not think they would be warm enough as they are light, but they are and it has been cold skiing...love them. They may be long on the average height woman as I am tall and they are a little long on me.
I'm adding to my first review. I've now worn these many days back-country skiing, during cold spring Rocky Mountain field surveys, and day-in-day-out on an Arctic river and coast paddle and they still look like new. I've put these through their paces and they remain warm, soft, and comfortable. Highly recommended! Thank you Ibex!
I would use my one and only Long Janes while packpacking/camping for days on end. After a wash in the stream, I would wear it to a restaurant and then on a plane ride home to Honolulu. And I still looked stylish!
Bought these for my 11 year-old daughter as part of her soccer kit. When the temps fall below 40, my daughter puts these on and stays warm without them heating up too much. She says that she prefers these to the clammy feel of synthetics. They fit well under shin guards, a little long since she's just under five feet but she folds over the cuffs without any problem.
LOVE LOVE LOVE. Thin enough to feel invisible under jeans, Carhart's, etc. yet gives undeniable warmth and comfort. They do stretch out a bit, so expect some saggy knees after wearing them for weeks on end. And when you finally do get around to washing them, I have thrown them in the wash AND drier with no regrets. The only reason I put that they wear quickly, is only through normal wear did I g
I purchased these bottoms for a recent vacation to wear as pajama bottoms. We stayed in mountain cabins where it was pretty cold at night and these bottoms were great to sleep in. These are stylish enough to wear as tights with boots and long sweater or tunic. They were soft and comfortable and did well in the washer and dryer.
Aside from the construction of these woollies and the wonderful soft feel of merino, I especially LOVE that they fit my natural waist, which means the rise is high enough that I don't get drafts around my midriff and lower back. I tried the Icebreaker version and as soon as I bent over, my top came untucked, letting the cold into my lower back. Thanks, Ibex, for making a waist that rides my waist.
have the thinnner 17.5 micron version of their long janes, was wanting something thicker and more "tight" like. they are great. I am 5'2, 128 lbs and ordered the small. Its alittle long (as most things are more me), but otherwise just right.
I bought these long janes for snowshoeing/cross country skiing as well as to wear under dresses in the winter. I have only worn them casually so far and they are the most comfortable and warm winter legging!!! They don't make me feel like I am being sucked in by cheap elastic cotton. My only concern is that they run large! I am 5'6 120 pounds and the XS stretched out after the first wear and now s
I bought these to replace a pair of woolies that have an elastic waistband and a pair of synthetic liners. For the most part the waist band is comfortable, but it does sit at the natural waist. The inseam is too long, which causes the fabric to bunch up. I am 5'04" with a 32" inseam. Yes, I have long legs for my height and theses are long on me! I would have returned them for a medium, but I
I love these and want to wear them everyday. That said, they do run a tad big which brings the style factor down a bit. They are also a bit long which can make them look a little bunchy at the ankle/calf/knee.
I ordered these in a Medium since I wasn't sure about the size. I take a small Ibex top, but often take a larger size in bottoms. They were too big, but I returned them for a refund rather than exchange because they were just way too long. At 5'3", there was at least 5" extra length on my legs. They seemed just as high quality as all my other Ibex pieces, but just not for someone with my legs. Als
Very comfortable mid-weight. I own all three "weights" and this one is the most comfortable. Having written that however - this weight Zephyr has less elastic in it, so it won't retain its body-hugging shape like the other weights.
I was very pleased to receive a pair of Long Janes for Christmas. The fabric itself is extremely comfortable, they wick, and they don't smell. However, they are let down by the cut and detailing. They are quite long (I am 5'8) and the waist is very high. It sits above my belly button with a thick, narrow elastic band. The tag is a sewn-in, scratchy fabric tag that sits against my back if my
I'm 5'7 weighing 120 and I got a medium in these but I think a small would have been a better fit. The waist is to high and the legs are a little too loose. I plan on using these for a backpacking trip in Europe and if I had more time before I left I would probably return and reorder the different size. They are extremely comfortable and seem to retain heat well.
